Dr. Silva comes to High Performance PT with 12 years of experience in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and then went on to earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) with an Orthopedic concentration from Columbia University. Dr. Silva is passionate about helping her patients and frequently pursues continuing medical education to increase her knowledge and s©'lls, as she views learning a lifelong process. She attends courses and conferences through various organizations including the HSS and NYU hospital networks, and is trained in many specialized manual techniques.
In 2017, after extensive coursework, Dr. Silva became a Certified Functional Manual Therapist (CFMT) through the Institute of Physical Art (IPA), joining less than 350 practitioners worldwide who hold this designation. Her treatment philosophy is heavily influenced by Functional Manual Therapy (FMT), utilizing the MNM approach to identify and treat dysfunctions in Mechanical capacity, Neuromuscular function, and Motor control in order to optimize her patients' function and maximize their movement potential.
Dr. Silva believes in a whole body approach, looking for the drivers of a patient's symptoms both locally and in adjacent joints or even other parts of the body, and understands the importance of reintegrating all of these parts back into a whole to fully restore the body to it's most efficient state as a movement system.
